PUBLICATION ETHICS
NAFSANA: Journal of Islamic Psychology is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published biannually and managed by the Program Studi Psikologi Islam as the official publisher. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher. The guidelines are based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Publishing ethical research is fundamental to the development of a credible and respected body of knowledge in psychology, particularly within integrative Islamic and scientific perspectives. All parties involved in the publication process are therefore expected to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity.
Duties of the Publisher
The publisher is responsible for ensuring that the editorial process is conducted ethically and transparently. The publisher supports the editorial team in maintaining academic quality and integrity and ensures that commercial or financial considerations do not influence editorial decisions. The publisher also facilitates communication with other journals or institutions when ethical issues arise.
Duties of Editors
Publication Decisions
Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published based on their scholarly merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Decisions should be guided by editorial policies and legal requirements concerning defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
Fairness
Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on intellectual content without discrimination based on race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisors, and the publisher.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without the author’s written consent. Editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and helps authors improve the quality of their manuscripts.
Promptness
Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or unable to provide a timely review should notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without authorization from the editor.
Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and support them with arguments.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and alert the editor to any substantial similarity between the manuscript and other published works.
Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or institutions.
Duties of Authors
Reporting Standards
Authors must present accurate accounts of their research and provide sufficient detail and references to allow replication. Fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting of data constitutes unethical behavior.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original and properly cite the work or words of others. Plagiarism in all forms is unacceptable.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publish the same research in multiple venues.
Authorship of the Manuscript
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. Sources of funding must be clearly stated.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
If authors discover significant errors in their published work, they must promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article.
This ethical framework ensures that NAFSANA: Journal of Islamic Psychology, under the stewardship of the Program Studi Psikologi Islam, maintains integrity, transparency, and academic excellence in all aspects of its publication process.
